Contract Milking at Hikuai
A fantastic opportunity to Contract milk a 130 ha (99ha eff), farm with 270 cows for an average production of 85,000 Milk solids utilising a simple system 3 operating system situated near Hikuai on the Coromandel Peninsula.
The successful candidate(s) will be offered a competitive contract rate per milk solid and other incentives and will have proven track record of achieving targets, working to a high standard and working collaboratively with owners and their advisors.
The facilities and system include:
· A modern 32 aside cowshed with In-shed feed system
· Effluent system storage is a large Klip tank with spreading via a travelling irrigator.
· Accommodation is - 1 - 3 Bedroom home with recently renovated bathroom with a heat pump and fireplace for heating.
· Schooling – Primary Hikuai 3 mins, Tairua School 12 mins, Secondary Thames High School 34 mins, or Whangamata area School.
· Plenty of support from and owners and farm advisor.
· Simple System 3. Utilising In-shed feed as the primary supplement.
· A herd of Kiwi cross cows 280 calving 270 @ 1st December
· Contour is flat to rolling with some steeper hill.

Excellent pasture skills; with a focus on pasture being the primary source of feed with excellent management of residuals, round lengths, feed wedges pasture measurement and allocation. Combined with the ability to manage supplementary feed efficiently.
Great animal husbandry skills, particularly around achieving low SCC, effective feeding to maximise production, target body condition scores to achieve low not-in-calf rates and high six week in-calf rates to maximise days in milk.
Repair and maintenance skills and the capability to operate machinery safety to complete normal farm tasks.
Has a strong track record of achieving production targets, managing Milk quality, environmental and Health and safety compliance.
Keeps the farm and facilities tidy and free of weeds.
Has financial proficiency to profitably manage their contract milking enterprise and the farm for the owners.
Understands that success as a contract milker requires working in partnership with others with great communication, a proactive approach, working alongside the farm owners.
